The COSA Awards

Tropicana was happy to be a part of the prestigious 2010 COSA Awards presented by Cosmetics Magazine & sponsors on November 18, 2010 at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel. The COSA Awards recognize those individuals in the cosmetics industry who do much more than just their jobs. They have made a career out of making sure their customers thoroughly enjoy the shopping experience. Tropicana’s 3 youth volunteers helped to ensure the smooth running of the event by stuffing guest gift bags, setting up tables and greeting guests, among other tasks. For more information about the awards visit: http://cosmeticsmag.com/?page_id=2166.

Tropicana's 17th Annual Caribbean Ball

Although the night was full of a dynamic series of events such as celebrating Tropicana’s programs, sharing good food, entertainment and gifts, its overall purpose to raise funds as well as raise awareness for Tropicana’s programs and services remained well intact. As it has for the last 17 years, since Tropicana began its Annual Caribbean Ball. Starting off humbly in 1993 with only 75 guests attending the event, it has grown into a grand event where approximately 400 guests attend. The night proved itself as truly delightful by encompassing a welcoming atmosphere while remaining celebratory and elegant.

Magical Memories of Camp Tropicana

Send a Child to Camp Tropicana 2010

According to Active Healthy Kids Canada, children from the lowest income level are three times more likely to never have participated in organized activities and sports, compared with those in the highest income level.

Each summer Camp Tropicana fosters healthy bodies and healthy minds and provides all the fun and learning that kids need over the summer break. In order to be accessible to low-income families we keep our camp fees as low as possible, charging parents just $20 per day, and $100 for a full week. However, it is still difficult for some families, particularly those with more than one child, to afford to send their child(ren) to camp.

Thanks to your generous donations, more children from low-income families can benefit from the experience of Camp Tropicana. Just $20 enables a child to attend for a day; $100 enables that child to attend for a week.

“We love camp! We have so much fun going to new places, like the science centre and bowling. We can’t wait to see our new friends again – how soon can we go back?”
Sam and Cas, Age 7, Camp Tropicana Participants

How to Donate
Mail a cheque to: Tropicana Community Services, 670 Progress Avenue, Unit 14, Scarborough, ON, M1H 3A4. Be sure to put Camp Tropicana 2010 in the subject line.

Call us on 416-439-9009 ext. 230 to donate by VISA or Mastercard.

Want to organize your own fundraising event? See our Third Party Event kit for rules and tips: http://tropicanacommunity.org/donate/donate_thirdparty.html

All donations of $20 and more are eligible for a charitable tax receipt.

Thanks to all our Donors

Sincere thanks to all our donors for helping to create magical memories for children in 2009 by giving $1,160 to help some of the 64 children to attend Camp Tropicana at the Centennial College campus on Ashtonbee Road between July 6 and August 14. Campers were aged between 0 and 14 with the majority of campers being “Junior Adventurers,” aged between six and eleven years old.

From Shelter to Camp

One of the 2009 Junior Adventurers was nine-year-old Felisha (not her real name). It was Felisha’s first time at a summer camp - and she had a ball! She made the most of the opportunity to meet and socialize with kids her own age, because whilst living in a shelter with her mother she is relatively isolated from other children. Felisha’s mother was grateful for the camp bus service, because without it her daughter would not have been able to get to the camp.
Camp staff noticed that in addition to being fun and friendly, Felisha is academically gifted. Tropicana has committed to helping her navigate the school system to ensure that she gets the level of education that she needs to reach her full potential.
